This week has been full of ‘Oh, Shiny!’ moments, leaving writing goals unmet and me feeling frustrated and annoyed with myself.
What have been your ‘Oh, Shiny!’ moments this week?
My biggest ‘Oh, Shiny!’ this week started with meeting a writing goal, believe it or not. I finished a draft of my work in progress Sunday evening. I should be moving on, starting two other important projects. And yet I keep getting lured back, thinking of ways to tweak the old one, fussing with my index, etc. Every miniscule thought about the draft, I find myself saying, “Oh, Shiny,” and opening the damn doc again. Must. Stop. Now… Today. Leave it for revisions after betas, numbskull.
My “Oh, Shiny!” has been playing catch up since I returned from a family trip. I reworked revisions this week to meet a submission goal. I love the list. Chocolate is always an “oh, shiny!”
@Vaughn- Close the document and step away from the keyboard. 🙂 It’s so hard to stop tinkering! I’ve re-written my opening chapter to death. After reading Keith’s post on WU about the agent gong show, I went back to it. Big mistake! I’m half way through my major re-write, I should be moving forward not back. But that opening chapter is so ‘Oh, Shiny!’ I’ll leave my first chapter alone if you’ll wait for your beta feedback. 🙂 deal?
@Stacy-Thanks for stopping by. Congratulations on meeting your submission goal. That’s awesome! Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Shall we celebrate with some chocolate? 🙂 Back to work for me. No chocolate till I’ve met my goal today.
Heather, Deal! Although I know what you mean about Keith’s post. 🙂 Good luck getting on with, and getting through, your rewrite. Just starting mine today. My editor’s (it’s WU’s Cathy Yardley, if I haven’t mentioned) revision comments are tearing me up (probably because they’re hitting the mark 😉 ). She’s great, and I’m glad I hired her.
